SWOON Katy is the premier community publication in Katy, Texas.
After many years as an editor at Absolutely Memorial Magazine, Lara Bell formed Swoon Media LLC. In April 2017, she purchased the very magazine where she had been editor for many years and developed her new magazine. After many months of deliberation, in September 2017 she launched Swoon Memorial Magazine. Why “Swoon” you might ask. Because Swoon, according to the urban dictionary’s meaning is to be overwhelmed by ecstatic joy, being in a state of ecstasy or rapture.
SWOON Katy’s mission is to highlight, help, and honor the happenings, and, of course, the residents in Katy, Texas. It’s designed to showcase the communities best. It features interesting news about Katy’s people, exciting events, pets, kids, education, and so much more!
About the Publisher and Editor
Having been in Houston’s media for over 20 years, Lara felt it was finally the perfect time to launch Swoon Media. Starting in her early twenties, Lara began her career at the local Community Access TV Station where she fell in love with community relations. After working there five years, a new “family friendly” television station, KTBU-TV 55, was gearing up to launch. There she was hired on as Public Affairs Director to produce and host “Tube Talk”, a Public Affairs program. The success of that show propelled her to become the host of a new local TV entertainment show “Wild about Houston”. The next 14 years at KTBU-TV was her dream come true, however a unique opportunity arose where she was asked to become the editor of Absolutely Memorial Magazine. It was the perfect way to combine her love of television with her love of the community.
Living in the Memorial community, Lara felt that this would be a wonderful opportunity to not only expand her storytelling skills but also promote the area in which she is raising her own family.
SWOON Katy is near and dear to Lara’s heart because of her strong ties to the dynamic city. Lara attended James E. Taylor High School and her brother’s company, Cotton Holdings Inc. is based in Katy, Texas.
