Global Cuisine Highlighting South African and South American Specialties
Since opening in the winter of 2017, Katy restaurant owner Casey Castro has attracted a loyal following of diners that appreciate flavorful choices and artful presentations.
A small group of us recently treated ourselves to Sunday breakfast in the intimate dining room while catching up with Castro and learning more about his plans to become a go-to place for freshly sourced ingredients presented on a well-planned menu.
Although we opted for traditional American breakfast choices given the time of day we were there, we are planning an additional visit to sample the Latin and South African offerings for lunch or dinner. Our breakfast choices included Eggs Benedict, a dish that did not stray from the traditional composition of poached eggs atop Canadian Bacon and toasted English muffins with a ample amount of fairly good hollandaise sauce. We also tried the Texans Breakfast, a generous platter of two eggs, two bacon, two sausage, nicely seasoned roasted potatoes and a couple Belgian waffles. It was filling and a good brunch-sized meal. You can also try other familiar favorites such as French toast, pancakes, omelettes, or go for something from Latin America and select the Breakfast Criollo. It features an arepa, shredded beef, black beans, scrambled eggs and cheese.
The lunch menu which caters to business people who are on a tight schedule or those just wanting to get away from other crowded lunch spots, features empanadas, several pasta dishes, signature Argentino Beef Sandwich, lemon grilled chicken and much more.
The dinner menu features South African scallops, boerewors sausage, shrimp, steaks, mussels and all kinds of sides and extras. The wine list has some nice international and domestic wines and there are plenty of drink specials.
Keep in mind that Castro is still finding his way in the restaurant business but is making great strides in understanding what people want when choosing places that keep fresh, wholesome ingredients at the ready. You can stick with something that you are familiar with or try something new, either way there are plenty of good options for any meal of the day.
